But My Parental Brain Rebels…

Seriously at age 16 should you be holding a pole in front of millions of audience whose youngest age is in kindergarten?miley

Check out Little Miss Sunshine here.  I totally see where the next marketing level is heading  Nintendo Wii will partner with Nickelodeon and bring you “Wii Pole – unleash your inner Stripper”.

SK8T

One of the kids favorite recreational activity is Skateboarding especially in the cold months when its too cold to surf. Skateboarding offers an alternative that simulates almost the same move as its cousin sport Surfing.

My oldest son enjoys it so much and entered his photo in the PTA Reflections in 2007 theme “My Favorite Place” and won state level Award of Exelence in Intermediate Division. Here he is with Bucky Lasek circa 2006.

Thoughts on turning 12 years old

Hard to believe that my oldest son turns 12 on Monday. I’m in awe for who ages more applies to me rather than him. Gone are the days of rubber ducky soaps or tear free shampoos, night time feedings, perpetual worries on choking hazard toys, falling out of beds, and violent fever that come in some idle afternoon. I still remember the day we took you home from the hospital and I sat on the deck and noticed that the tomatoes were in full bloom. I battled over my uncertainty of life’s challenges but grew to realize that everything could wait and this child will not. You made me grow. I became a better person. You gave me wisdom that I would never have learned in any university or any church. Raising a child is neither a trial and error nor a matter of true false choices. It is a very humbling experience for a grown person. As a new mom, I received a lot of unsolicited advice. It isn’t something you can purchase on aisle of a famous bookstore and pour over it in the middle of a crying fit or refer to when your friends had broken your spirit. It is a constant shift of uncertainty not about being good but making good choices and learning to trust decisions.
In first grade you had difficulty in reading. I cried and wondered what I missed. Did I not take enough pre-natal vitamins? Were you born two days too soon from the due date? And now for two summers in a row you’ve attended and thoroughly enjoyed your stay at University of Virginia Enrichment camp. You’re reading level is better than fine.
As we age together mistakes are going to be made both mine and yours. Yes I can be outrageously over the top in discipline that can make a General cower in fetal position. You may not understand my insistence but know it is for the best. I will back off and Let You Be! (minus the tattoos and piercings and my fear of excessive binge drinking- let’s not go there by the way). But for now “Carpe Diem!” You are a source of happiness to all of us. You’re smile and gaze is infectious. You can thank me later.
Love and always,
mom
