Javalujah!

Our nation has been addicted to ‘retail worship’…now the economy HAS TANKED what do we do?  Life is full of paradox and irony.  It doesn’t help that on a national level we are being asked and encourage to spend and borrow our way out of recession by means of stimulus checks and that the person who handles your monies is called a broker.  In any case,  enjoy this parody.

To offshore drill or not offshore drill that is the question

During the election of 2008, I heard the Republican Party in a frenzy screaming “Drill Baby Drill!!!.”  This was the mantra that echoed in Sarah Palin’s VP’s speech and her and the Republican party’s words left me broken.

I am oppose to off-shore drilling for simple reasons:

1.     Off-shore drilling will not significantly affect me financially.

2.     The environmental risk by far out weighs the benefits the State would receive.

3.     Off shore drilling will only postpone the inevitable solution, which is alternative energy.

As I raise my concern, offshore drilling in the Virginia coast is moving forward with the push of the current Bush Administration.  I can’t say democrat Tim Kaine had no role on this issue he supported the bill back in 2006.  Currently, 50 miles offshore in Virginia is being considered for offshore oil and natural gas exploration. In North Carolina ocean waters, they are pushing for 100 miles offshore but Virginia will set the standard.

In closing, I want to say that I love the ocean.  I love the gifts the ocean bestows to families, my friends and me.  When the day comes that my husband and children cannot surf or swim or I can’t jog on the beach because of environmental issues caused by offshore drilling, yes I will be angry.  The vision of black slick oil accompanied by lifeless sea creature washing on shore isn’t appealing at all to me.  I have strong reservations with regards to nature.  Remember oil is a global commodity the price is set according the entire world demands.  Don’t be fooled.

Tony Hawk Boom Boom HuckJam

Wikigen.

Extremely lame.  Don’t waste your money.  The show lasted a little over an hour.  There was only one ramp.  All attendee had to stay on one side and watch which means if you have a small child he/she couldn’t see the event.  It took place on the parking lot of the amphitheater.  Tickets were overly priced for the amount of time they performed.  Of course, they hike up the price the day of the event (just like any other event) but that’s not the issue, it was a complete RIP OFF.  I was really dissapointed as a parent.  My kids did not have a good time because they spent most of thier time guarding what little space they had so that they could see the tricks on ramp.  PLEASE DO NOT GO or BUY TICKETS TO THIS EVENT.

Surfing and Carpooling

We all have a passion.  My husband is an avid surfer.  Every morning with a cup of coffee on hand, he slides onto his office chair and he does the daily web cam surf check on line.  It doesn’t matter if there’s any surf or not it’s just his routine.  I suppose his not alone in his passion.  But lately, he has to strategize surfing (whether we’re surfers or kayakers or what ever it is we have by heart we are all affected by the rising cost of gas).  I cannot help but think do we have to forego our passion due to the expense of gas?  The East Coast has been experiencing consistency on quality of waves this summer but passionate Surfers have their eyes on the prize which means in order to get to a surfing spot they would have to drive.  It’s no secret that the Outer Banks has the best surf spot on the East Coast but these days surfing at OBX would require combining trips or car pool.
