My oldest son enjoys it so much and entered his photo in the PTA Reflections in 2007 theme “My Favorite Place” and won state level Award of Exelence in Intermediate Division. Here he is with Bucky Lasek circa 2006.

Arbitrary Olympic Sports
Wikigeneration › Edit — WordPress.
I have been watching the Olympics almost every night with my two sons and my husband and our kids are just amazed of what Michael Phelps has accomplished. Gold medal after gold medal. My oldest son commented “Why should everyone else bother to race like they might as well hand him the gooold!” (emphasizing on ‘gold’) and my youngest chimes in and say’s, “He should do the Souldja Boy dance on the podium.” You go Michael Phelps!
On the other hand, with my consistency of watching the Beijing Olympics 2008, this has caused me to have weird dreams. I’m participating in what could be an arbitrary Olympic Sport and in my dream, I am in a relay wearing Heeleys and I get disqualified for doping my baton because as it turns out I am holding an eggplant. The eggplant was more than likely triggered from a meal three days prior.
Did you know that the mighty sport of Tug of War was once an Olympic Sport? Now a days Tug of War is frequently seen on MTV The Inferno with inebriated participants and half-naked chicks. Our society has come a long way.

Surfing and Carpooling
We all have a passion. My husband is an avid surfer. Every morning with a cup of coffee on hand, he slides onto his office chair and he does the daily web cam surf check on line. It doesn’t matter if there’s any surf or not it’s just his routine. I suppose his not alone in his passion. But lately, he has to strategize surfing (whether we’re surfers or kayakers or what ever it is we have by heart we are all affected by the rising cost of gas). I cannot help but think do we have to forego our passion due to the expense of gas? The East Coast has been experiencing consistency on quality of waves this summer but passionate Surfers have their eyes on the prize which means in order to get to a surfing spot they would have to drive. It’s no secret that the Outer Banks has the best surf spot on the East Coast but these days surfing at OBX would require combining trips or car pool.

Nepotism Rules!
I had a pre-formed idea that a “coach” is one whose role as an instructor and a mentor, one who will enriched my son’s performance that is other wise not possible if he’s left to his own endeavor would create a positive impression in building his character. I couldn’t have been more wrong.
Perhaps I was too enamored with the movie “Remember The Titans” Denzel can have that affect on me. In this movie, Denzel Washington, played the character of Herman Boone now where reality and Hollywood converge is another subject but ”Remember The Titans” epitomized what every coach should aspire to be. I don’t necessarily recommend a bunch of boys 10 and below run through a graveyard as part of their training; however, a coach and its affiliations should stay true to their credo.
Here’s the leagues mission statement “… Baseball, Inc. ____ is to provide an organized baseball program for all qualified youth living within the organization’s designated boundaries. In addition to teaching the fundamentals of baseball and providing an opportunity for youngsters to participate, LBI shall also be dedicated to fostering in them the ideals of sportsmanship, teamwork, loyalty, and perseverance. All coaches, managers, umpires, parents and league officials must be constantly mindful of their responsibility to act in a manner consistent with these objectives.” Wow that sounds great! What they forgot to mention is this only applies to family members in the team. Maybe that’s what they meant to say regarding ‘boundaries’. Once again, nepotism rules!
I hate the coach and his son, the two assistant coaches and their sons and the scorekeeper’s son. The stud players never sit any inning out leading to unequal playing of teammates. They only focus on their sons and the rest of the teammates are overlooked. The coach inability to coach has resulted in consecutive loss resulting in some player’s decline of confidence.
I would attest that the coaches have failed everyone in the team including their son’s. When will parents and parents who coaches that arrogance is not a virtue! Sometimes it is the less skilled or least experience player that can turn a team around.
